Do swimming pools add value?

This is a question I get ALL of the time.  My answer…It depends!  A pool can be a great addition to a home.  My parents have a pool and we have made some great memories in the backyard as a family.  The grandkids have a blast and we always have at least 1 birthday party a year in the pool.  If a pool is well maintained and the home is also well maintained and updated then the house will generally sell for more per square foot than a comparable home in the same neighborhood.  When looking for a house most families are not looking for a pool, but a pool usually won’t stop someone from purchasing a home.  My parents didn’t want a pool when they were looking, but the house they found was exactly what they wanted and bought it despite the pool.  If you want to sell your home or you’re trying to sell a home with a pool then spend the time or $ to get it in perfect condition and you’ll add value to your home.
